O.K!, getting a bit geeky here, but in a good kinda way. I really don't have any gurus, heck- I'm a guru, but I don't know it! But in terms of a head-screwed on bit of advice, I must confess, Leo Baubuta is interesting. Oh, alright, he's a writer, he's a speaker, and all that - hey ya gotta make a living? right? But he really has a handle on how to deliver this 'simplicity' schtick. He even has a hard core writing site, Write To Done. I like pithy aphorisms as much as the next person, and his don't provoke that response in me which blends 'you're kidding me' with 'what tommyrot!' Mind you, I don't agree with his approach all the time, but on the whole, it's interesting. But what is really cool is his mnmlist site. The lead is on having a totally stripped down Mac. Holey Moley, he doesn't even use the menu bar! o m g It's not all simplicity mind you, I for one am still trying to get the hang of Quicksilver. And he's also totally focused on just writing, not photography. But his article has some great points and strategies, and I can tell you that Namely is changing the way I work. I've basically stopped using the Dock. oh and it's free. . .and if you really don't use Spotlight much, turn off the indexing! Good Grief, talk about freeing up system resources - I did some maintenance with Cocktail, disabled indexing, restarted - and there was a definite bump up in speed. You could also use Onyx, and that's freeware too. gosh, outta breath. . .
